Replacing the box with new working chip should be enough. We do have the option to reset platen pad but this is auxillary counter and related to, well, platen pad.

Also, this string basically encodes a sequence of bytes with ascii symbols each byte written to the corresponding location in the eeprom. If there are more symbols that required then there are no reasonable way to reduce it to the shorter form. Moreover, while writing head id can improve or fix printing quality, its absence should not be a cause of fatal errors, so if this is the case then the problem most likely with something else.
